Social media has become the latest place
for talent exposure. It has become a new place where media, music and many other industries turn to for new, interesting and
unique talented people every day. Social media websites
like YouTube have become a mirror for reality television
shows in terms of finding new talent and giving them the right amount
of recognition that they deserve.
In recent times, more and more raw talent
has been discovered and appreciated on social networking sites in comparison with reality television's undersized participants and winners. Websites like YouTube and Facebook have out grown reality telivision so much that its producers are using social media to increase the number of viewers for their shows, some of them being survivor and the apprentice. Another success of social media over reality shows is its winners are identified much in advance on websites like Facebook and YouTube based on its page views and video likes even before the show has reached half way sometimes, which cuts down the viewer ship of the show. All this is the result of television's limited participants and the time limit on the show which does not exist on YouTube and Facebook. YouTube and Facebook not only provide's people with a platform to showcase their talent but allows them to grow and develop their talent based on the feedback that they get from their viewers. People might do the simplest thing and call it a talent because no one is
able to copy them, but even that can bring fame to anyone - such is the power
of social media in today's world.
It’s safe to conclude by saying that social
media rules the world of talent hunt and development. It certainly seems to be everyone’s first
choice for finding talents and absorbing them into media, music and related industries. YouTube has become the future of reality television.
Hi Leo
ReplyDeleteSM is definitely extremely important, I wouldn't say it will overtake reality TV as talent finds, but in a different way of finding talent is is probably one of the best places. For example, the reality shows offer the suspense and people enjoy watching it. SM on the other hand offer instant access to talent. In my view they are a little different, both offering the opportunity to discover talent, but in different ways.
Ross
The biggest problem with talent-hunting on SM is the sheer volume of content out there... but I guess that ratings and "liking" does a lot of the sorting on behalf of the talent scouts!
ReplyDeleteHi Ross i definitely agree with what you are saying but but sm has eaten into the reality television's share of talent hunt and its proven to provide with much better opportunity to talented people
ReplyDeleteThe most amazing thing about social media is that now everyone has a platform to market themselves!!! Your name is a brand!! Take Justin Bieber who was discovered on youtube. So with endless opportunities and not to mention an interactive interface SM is the way forward.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch a lot of tv, but have got the 'Twelevision' app
ReplyDelete@Hubba: I love Twelevision - a brilliant combination of old and new media.
